Meet a Subscriber - Ben Burton

Welcome to our latest "Meet a Subscriber" feature. Today we are meeting the amazing Ben Burton, read on to learn more about why we are so proud to have Ben as a subscriber and how VitxCycle is supporting him and his charity fund raising efforts through The Burton Bash.

Name: Ben Burton Age (it is only a number!!): 48 Occupation: Business Development Manager Tell us about yourself: I've always been a very active person. My main sport was hockey but I also enjoyed road cycling with friends. Generally I struggle to sit still for long periods, but this all changed when I was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour in April 2021. I’m determined to keep active and cycle when I can though.

Are you on Social Media? If so where can you be found? Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn Cycle club (if you have one): None What was your first bike? BMX (still my favourite ever bike), but I’m sure I had a small child’s bike before this to learn on. Current bike: Pinnacle road bike Dream bike: Sadly no dream bike, just being out on one is enough! I feel an upgrade coming on! Favourite place to ride: Countryside with quiet, car free roads. I'm originally from Ludlow so a country boy at heart! If you could cycle anywhere in the world, where would it be? I have cycled over the Pyrenees which was very special, so anywhere with mountainous views. Why is cycling special to you? Fresh air, exercise and freedom Biggest cycling achievement (distance/days/event): Longest in a day was a charity ride from Birmingham to Aberdovey - 125 miles. Tough as I was playing a lot of hockey at the time which meant my longest training ride was only 40 miles beforehand. Do you have a yearly distance target? No Any cycle trips coming up? Non planned due to my health, but being able to join friends on the Burton Bash in October 2021 was so exhilarating.

Do you have any health goals? Keep positive and keep fighting the brain tumour. What benefits do you feel from taking VitxCycle? After being diagnosed with a Brain Tumour and starting a 6 week treatment plan of both radio and chemo therapies. I was looking to give my body the best chance of coping with the side effects, so I started to take VitxCycle under my Consultant's supervision. I had regular blood tests during the treatment and my bloods actually IMPROVED during his time! Needless to say I'll be continuing to take VitxCycle, it really does work. How would you describe your cycling style? Enthusiastic.

Note: VitxCylce is a proud supporter of The Burton Bash, whose aim is to get people more physically active and raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity by cycling form Leamington Spa to Ludlow, and back! Set up in 2021, at the time of writing it has raised in excess of £10,000 for the charity and got people off the sofa and back into exercising. The even have a Burton Bash STRAVA club!
